How to play
PlayBid is a bidding / trick-taking game in the spirit of Oh Hell. Each hand you bid how many tricks you’ll win, then try to hit that number exactly. A trick is one round where everyone plays a card; the highest card (or trump) wins the trick. In the app, open ? → How to Play, or try Learn to Play on the home screen for a guided first hand.
Quick start
- Bid. After the deal, bid from 0 up to the number of cards in the hand. Your goal is an exact take — over or under both miss the bonus.
- Watch the Hook. When the hook is on, the dealer (last to bid) cannot choose the number that would make total bids equal the hand size. Someone must miss.
- Play to the trick. On your turn, tap a highlighted card. Follow suit when you can. Trump beats other suits when it’s in play.
- Score the hand. Match your bid exactly for a bonus. Hands grow and shrink through the schedule until the game ends.
A concrete example
Four players, 3 cards each — so there are 3 tricks this hand.
OK: Bids of 0, 1, 2, or 3 — unless you’re the dealer and the Hook forbids one number.
Miss: Bid 2 but win 1 or 3 tricks — you still get classic points for tricks won, but you miss the exact-bid bonus.
Modes & house rules
- Solo — you vs AI opponents.
- Pass & Play — multiple humans on one device; a privacy screen hides cards between turns.
- Play Online — Game Center turn-based or live (realtime) matches.
- Presets — Classic, Blackout, Elevator, or Custom (schedule, hook, scoring, trump, jokers, and more).
What to include
To help us respond faster, please include:
- Device model (for example iPhone 16) and iOS version
- PlayBid version number (from the App Store or Settings if shown)
- Whether the issue happens in solo, pass & play, turn-based, live multiplayer, purchases, or ads
- Screenshots or a short description of the steps that reproduce the problem
Common topics
- Game Center / online play. Sign in via Settings → Game Center on your device. The App ID must have Game Center enabled in App Store Connect. Simulator support is limited; a real iPhone or iPad is more reliable for live matches.
- Purchases (Full Table / Remove Ads). Use Restore Purchases in the Table Shop. Purchases are handled by your Apple ID. For billing problems, also check reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Ads. Between-hand ads can be removed with Full Table or Remove Ads. On device you may see App Tracking Transparency and, in some regions, a consent form.
